Yoga for Flexibility

Stretching and staying flexible is very important for your health - for both men and women. Proper stretching will help prevent muscle injury during workouts, and during day to day living. Your back, arms, legs and abs are all crucial muscles to keep limber and stretched.

Leg Stretches

  1. Lie on your back, making sure your spine and head are aligned. Keeping one leg flat on the floor (or if you cannot, it is ok to bend the leg), pull the other leg straight up towards your chest, supporting your leg with your hands. This is a great way to stretch out the hamstring muscles in your legs. Hold the stretch (but please do not hold at the knee) for at least a minute. Slowly lower the leg and repeat with the other side.

  2. Sit on the floor with your legs out in front of you. Slolwy bring your legs into a butterfly position, pulling them as close as you can towards your body. Hold the position. If you would like it to be more challenging, you can press your knees down towards the floor and gently lean forward. Please be careful not to lean too far however. You want to feel a stretch, not pain.
